With a goal of bringing the fun of the DETRAC (Depok Trail Running Academy) closer to the running community while also helping save the environment, the SALOMON GET OUT & PLAY community run event organized by Salomon Indonesia and DETRAC was held on Saturday, March 16, 2019, at the University of Indonesia’s Forest Park, the largest green landscape in and around Depok, Indonesia. Each participant’s registration fee of USD3.50 was donated to the Forest Park.
Runners were divided into three categories: Men’s, Women’s and Masters. Those in the Men’s Category had to complete a 26km course with a cutoff time of four hours, while those in Women’s and Masters ran 19.5km and had to finish no later than three hours after the starting time. Around 150 runners- males and females ranging from 20 to 40+ years old- participated in the event.
Unlike usual community running events, GET OUT & PLAY encouraged participants to race against each other. Thanks to heavy rain from the night before, the route was incredibly muddy and slippery with very few patches of firm ground, which made the race more challenging. Prizes were awarded to those who finished on the podium.
Despite the competition and unforgiving route, participants enjoyed the event. Riza Ferdiansyah, a participant in the Men’s Category, expressed his happiness after finishing the course. “We all had fun in the mud. It was good training for me before going to biggest races this year.”
“It was crazy and fun. It fits the title perfectly: GET OUT & PLAY!” added Nathaniel, who also ran in the Men’s category.
At the end of the event, runners gathered once again for the announcement of the door prize winners and for a group photo. It was a great day for Salomon Indonesia and all the participants, especially for the winners. In addition to the great weather, participants were able to make new friends and became more acquainted with Salomon Indonesia. Best of all, everyone took part in protecting the environment!
Salomon Get Out & Play will be a bi-monthly gathering of runners organized by Salomon Indonesia, together with various local running communities near Jakarta, Bandung and surrounding cities to keep growing the sport and the community.
